KICK ASS GIRL POW WOW No.1

Hello BeYOUtiful beings!! I know I've been slipping on my blogging and video game as of lately, but life has been super busy handing me all kind of great ass opportunities that I must just step up to the plate for and knock out of the park. One of those opportunities was creating the first ever #KICKASSGIRLPOWWOW this past Saturday along with Creativenuova.com's founder Adia Dightman. I posted a flyer and info a few weeks ago on a blog post.
My little heart almost exploded from all the happiness and excitement I felt seeing this dream of mine manifested. My goal was to unite women of diverse backgrounds, professions, ages, and lifestyles in the means of inspiring, empowering, and sharing positivity and ideas. Our panel consisted of some very interesting and beYOUtiful women such as Dr. Karcheik Alvarado, she is an elegant woman Historian with a mean shoe game, Anastasia Nicole of http://greigemarket.com, The Bazaar Bohemian of http://www.projecttribe.org and http://www.printedpatternpeople.com, Oni of http://www.freshiam.net, and Faatima of http://mondesircollection.com. Not only are these ladies making waves in the digital space but in real life too!1 They shared valuable advice with us and nothing but good vibes ++++++. We sipped on some fancy champagne thanks to one of our sponsors, Matlock Advertising and munched on strawberries and mini cupcakes.  Our Pow Wow was held at The Collider tech start up space at the Biltmore in Midtown Atlanta.  Special shoutout to Collider for being our second sponsor.  We appreciated their support in helping us make this dream come to pass!! I have never felt more proud to be a woman, to be a freedom fighter, and to kick ass.  It was amazing to be in the presence of so many women of different walks of life from historians, scientists, fashion bloggers, tech girl, singers, and writers.  There was no dress code, be who you are!  There was no egos, no shade, no competition, no barriers.. We were just there to live, create, inspire! Hit play on our video recap so you can see what you missed and stay tuned for the next #KICKASSGIRLPOWWOW!

'SOUL REBELS' SMASHCORE GOES TO SERENBE

From the city to the country.
There's something going on in Atlanta. It's called Smashcore.  As of lately I've been working on a few new things with a few amazing people.  As anxious as I am to share all of the details of what's going on, I have to be patient and just show you all!! January 5th, 2015 will be the launch of Smashcore!! Until then, I want to share a cool experience we had a couple weeks ago.  The Smashcore team and a few other creative pals of mine including Willie Hyn, Vintage Nation, and Buckheadthread and of course my little mini me CJ  took a field trip to the beautiful escape of Serenbe to work on a project.

I had never been to such a place as peaceful and beautiful as Serenbe. I wasn't even aware that it existed just 45 minutes south of the city. Serenbe is a community focused on the elements of a well-lived life: arts for inspiration, agriculture for nourishment, health for wellbeing and education for awareness.  Serenbe has a 25 acre organic farm, an outdoor theatre, tree houses, farm animals, and really friendly people who reside in the community.  Being exposed to such a beautiful place gave me a new perspective.  It brought a feeling of peace and new found inspiration to continue creating.

We were at Serenbe to capture visuals for a project.  While we were there we took the time to jam out for a bit.  We explored the "paradise" as Cj described it and gather inspiration and motivation to continue on each of our distinct journeys.  Cj and I had a blast jumping on a trampoline we came upon and petting the animals at the petting zoo.  We all played like big kids in the tree houses and open fields.

These are some of the images Smashcore gathered from our little escape.  Nature is such a soothing and necessary thing for the soul.  If you're in the city and need a little getaway for your soul, take a little trip down to Serenbe! Stay tuned for more updates on Smashcore!

COLOR FUN FEST 5K RECAP

It was something as fascinating as colorful rain pouring from the sky!! Except it wasn't rain, but there was clouds and clouds of neon greens, electric yellows, hot pinks, and every color your happy mind can imagine. The energy was felt at high levels as hundreds of lively runners gathered to participate in the coolest 5k in the world, 'The Color Fun Fest 5k'.  Luckily we had the honor to experience this exciting event thanks to our Color Fun Fest friends!! This epic color run took place May 31, 2014 at Turner Field here in Atlanta.  The 7 pm run seemed a little slow since the weather hit us with a storm, but it didn't stop runners from showing up.  Eventually the rain let up and the 9pm  run turned out to be a success! The team and I had a blast! We danced along to the electric dance music the DJ was dishing out,  we ran, we got paint in the most random places, places a girl should never have paint in, but it was totally worth it!!  The hour I spent in the shower gave me ample time to reflect on how awesome of a time I had! Being a seeker of cool ways to work out I plan on making this a yearly experience.. The next Atlanta run is right around the corner in September so start gearing up to be in attendance and have one heck of a time and remember to LIVE-CREATE-INSPIRE!!

Stay informed about the 5k run here-----> COLOR FUN FEST

OUTKAST EXCLUSIVE PERFORMANCE AT COUNTERPOINT

Photos & Video by Brent  D. Gates

"The south has something to say," famous  words hollered by Big Boi at the Source Awards in 1995. Flash forward 20 years and the people in the south are at the edge of their seat waiting anxiously despite extreme weather conditions to hear the South's most beloved duo say something!

The past three days at the Counterpoint Festival 2014 at Kingston Downs, GA have been something close to magical, full of excitement, bare breasts & asses, and a musical lineup that has left me in a trance (full recap coming soon).
However, there is no denying that masses poured in at the last minute, others camped out and some held their spot for hours near the Blue Freedom stage to witness history! It would be safe to say that 90% of the people present were here to see Outkast.

THE INTERNET PERFORM AT THE LOFT IN ATLANTA

           Video edit by Brent Gates

"The Internet Take Over The Loft"

Unorthodox! Radical! Avant-garde! Those are the words that came to mind when I witnessed The Internet perform at Atlanta's intimate music venue, The Loft, last week.
A soft, delicate, and passionate sound filled the room seducing every ear in the audience. Taking center stage stood a slim, fresh-faced, Syd the Kyd with a laid back, west coast swagger and the voice of an angel! Standing to her right was Matt Martians accompanying her with the congos and key strokes and behind her the rest of the band jamming away, creating a warm, pleasant, vibe-heavy atmosphere.
The Internet's fusion of experimental jazz and neo soul create such a unique sound which makes you feel good.  "Feel Good" in fact is the title of their latest project from which they performed several songs from.
To hear such a warm, melodic jazz sound project from this 5 member band is truly radical.  Nothing you would expect from Odd Future.  I won't say why... I'll show you... Check out the mini video recap above and enjoy the dope shots I captured below!

Find out more about The Internet here.

NIKE TRAINING CLUB (NTC) LAUNCH IN ATLANTA! JUST DO IT!!

NIKE TRAINING CLUB (NTC) LAUNCH IN ATLANTA! JUST DO IT!!

"Squat! Jump! Drop! Plank! Push Up! Jumping jacks!! Keep moving, whatever you do, DON'T stop!!" said one of the extremely fit, motivating trainers from NTC all while I was sweating balls and hanging on for dear life during a high intensity workout courtesy of NIKE.

Yesterday night was the launch of the long awaited Nike Training Club (NTC) in Atlanta.  Seventy plus some motivated individuals ready to put in work, get fit, and most likely  in the process of getting summertime fine gathered at the Nike Store in Lennox Mall. Of course I couldn't miss out on a free training class from professional trainers, therefore I joined the awesome ladies of #TeamVictory and some friends from a run club I participate with known as "Pacers and Movers".

Upon arrival I was instructed to sign a waiver, then given the opportunity to try out a pair of the New Nike Free 5.0 TR Fit and use them through the workout. I must say that these are one of the most comfortable workout shoes I have worn thus far.  The fit felt extremely secure, light weight,  ultra flexible, and most of all super comfy.

After stretching for a bit it was time to head up stairs, but not without a pep talk from the trainers.  They made sure we heard them loud and clear.... It was time to put in work!!

Then the sweating began.  The 45 minute high intensity training session was a circuit combination of plyometrics, strength training, and lots of cardio.  There was a really cool DJ on site so the music was booming, the energy was high and being around so many people ready to sweat made this workout session amazing.  I felt extremely motivated by the trainers who traveled around the group pushing people individually to reach further than they imagined they could.  The moments where I would usually give up if I were working out alone were the moments where I felt inspired to push a little harder. Upon completing the workout we all got a really good stretch and were able to socialize with like minded people.  Sure my legs felt like jello but my spirits were high and I felt good.  I did It! I imagine the rest of the individuals present felt that same sense of accomplishment.

Jumps, squats, planks, pushups, and Supermans later I felt ready to keep working towards my fitness goals thanks to Nike!

Are you passionate about fitness, do you want to become a healthier you? Join the next NTC sessions.

The Nike Store @ Lennox Mall will hold NTC sessions every Thursday @ 8 pm!! Show up 20 minutes early to check in and stretch!! Remember to show up with a "Just Do It" attitude and high spirits!! Build a better you!!
